Rachung Gendun was sentenced to three years in prison for sending money for prayer offering of a deceased person
In July 2022, a Tibetan monk, from Meruma, Ngawa Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, named Rachung Gendun was sentenced to three years in prison for purportedly sending money for “prayer for a deceased soul” to the Dalai Lama and Kirti Rinpoche in India. In the past, he had strongly opposed the Chinese ‘Patriotic Education Campaign’ which was carried out at the monastery. Following a self-immolation case in the surrounding Ngawa County, Chinese police raided the monastery and confiscated photos of the Dalai Lama photos and arrested him.
